50th Anniversary Ribbon Tree planted in memorial garden

Pictured left to right are Gerald O'Hara (governor), Jasmine Ross and Christine O'Hara (PTA),
Kathryn Coulman (Y11 student) and Nigel Dudley, Deputy Headteacher.

On Saturday 15th June a team of volunteers planted a special mountain ash tree in the
memorial garden of Blessed William Howard Catholic High School to commemorate the
school’s 50th Anniversary.

The tree will be used for people to tie ribbons to, either in remembrance of someone special
or to make a wish, at the school reunion and family fun day on 6th July.   They will be asked to
makea small donation which will then go towards the school’s gardening funds. The team
of volunteers also tidied up flower beds and gave the garden a general makeover being very
careful not to disrupt the EcoGarden area developed by Y9 students. The EcoGarden already
boasts a diversity of habitats such a bog area, invertebrate hotel, wild meadow area and
vegetable patches.

“I was delighted that our volunteers came from all areas of the school.” commented Deputy
Headteacher, Mr Nigel Dudley. “Any project that brings together, staff, students, governors
and parents working towards a common goal is always a pleasure and reflects the true community
atmosphere of our school.”
